Purapipe signs Letter of Intent in Cochabamba, advancing the Water for Bolivia program

Purapipe has signed a Letter of Intent with the Autonomous Municipal Government of Cochabamba. Through this agreement, both parties will explore the city’s inclusion in Phase 1 of the Water for Bolivia program.

Purapipe developed this proposed national program to renew and expand drinking-water and irrigation infrastructure across Bolivia.

Bolivia’s water infrastructure faces growing pressure from urban expansion, water stress and network losses. At the same time, cities and productive regions need wider access to reliable water services. In Cochabamba, critical losses and non-revenue water have made the metropolitan corridor a priority area.

Water for Bolivia responds to these conditions.

The proposed program will span ten years, from 2027 to 2036. Overall, it contemplates approximately 2,500 km of pipeline infrastructure and an estimated US$1.8 billion in investment.

In addition, the program could benefit approximately 4.5 million people and provide irrigation infrastructure covering around 60,000 hectares.

The program combines engineering, project financing, construction, deployment and long-term infrastructure management. It will operate under a Build-Operate-Transfer framework.

Purapipe plans to implement the program progressively. First, work would begin in the Metropolitan Corridor of Cochabamba. It would then extend to capital cities and productive valleys. Ultimately, the objective is to achieve broader national coverage.

Next, the parties will exchange technical information and undertake preliminary feasibility work. They will also coordinate planning and define the requirements for potential implementation.

This is the work Purapipe was built for: understanding infrastructure challenges, defining the technical and economic conditions around them, and developing systems that can operate at meaningful scale.

For Purapipe, Cochabamba represents an important institutional milestone for Water for Bolivia.
